Background:

The premise of the project CCM² is that integrated trust and competence management enables balancing flexibility and stability requirements, and thus enables innovation potential.

Practical Goals:

Aim of this application-oriented project is to enable companies a quick and comprehensive diagnose of their balancing capacities. Key research questions are: Is trust of employees (in the organization) a requirement for their involvement in organizational change processes? Which competences do employees need in order to secure the ability of SMEs to change and innovate and to become actively involved in change processes? Do competence development measures have a strong influence on trust, and what effect does trust in the organization have on individuals’ willingness to develop their competences?

Diagnostic instruments will be developed in order to measure trust and competencies in SMEs. In cooperation with practice partners good practices in the fields of trust and competence management will be examined and evaluated. The research project aims at developing a toolbox of practical instruments for balanced HR policies. Thus, companies will be equipped with measures, for example, to increase the flexibility of workers with high job tenure or to secure trust in flexible employment relationships.

Fundamental Research Goals:

The project also aims to identify and model the effects of the interaction between trust and competence management. This also will be carried out with practice partners. We aim at identifying variables, through which organizational trust and competence management can be measured in standardized panel inquiries. This operationalization will form the basis for a typification of organizational competence and trust systems. Differences in strategies of coping with the challenges of change will be depicted through such a typification.

Interconnectedness of the Project:

The project is embedded in a national and international consortium. At a national level, the project is assigned to the BMBF’s research focus “balance between flexibility and stability in a changing world of work”. Internationally, the group cooperates with the program WORK-IN-NET in order to increasingly network the European research landscape in the area of work science.
